Metalworking Residue Specialist
In 1992, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Archaeology and History at Ghent University with a thesis on prehistoric and Roman ironworking in Belgium. More recently, I completed PhD research into late medieval ironworking in Ireland at University College Cork in 2014.
This consisted of bringing together the historical and archaeological evidence for both smelting and smithing in Ireland between 1200 and 1600. These findings were put into a wider European context. The PhD can be downloaded here. I am a director of the Mining Heritage Trust of Ireland and chairman of the Historical Metallurgy Society. |
